The player must guide mario through three different stages and eventually rescue pauline. But the task won't be easy and kong will do anything to protect and uphold what now belongs to him. In the first screen, mario must run up a series of metallic girders while avoiding barrels that the ape throws down at him. The first barrel also ignites an oil drum located at the bottom of the screen, which in turn generates fireballs that go chase after mario. Although the carpenter can only jump, avoid enemies or climb up ladders, he nevertheless has a way to defend himself - hammers are sometimes available and can be used as improvised weapons for a short amount of time, and crush anything that dares cross their path. The second screen features elevators, evil bouncing springs and wandering fireballs, as well as two bonus items - pauline's umbrella and purse that the player can collect for extra points. Finally, the third screen is made out of four large platforms hold in places by eight yellow rivets. Mario must run or jump over all eight rivets to make them disappear, forcing the large construction to collapse and then trapping the giant gorilla, thus rescuing pauline from her predicament.

Sans hésiter, son copain Mario, un petit menuisier moustachu avec une salopette rouge, une chemise bleue et un chapeau, vole à son secours. Le petit homme est le gardien originel du gorille et il est également prêt à donner au grand singe une bonne leçon qu'il n'oubliera pas de sitôt... Le joueur doit guider Mario à travers trois étapes différentes et éventuellement sauver Pauline. Mais la tâche ne sera pas facile et Kong fera tout pour protéger et faire respecter ce qui lui appartient désormais. Dans le premier écran, Mario doit escalader une série de poutres métalliques tout en évitant les tonneaux que le singe lui lance. Le premier baril enflamme également un baril de pétrole situé en bas de l'écran, qui à son tour génère des boules de feu qui partent à la poursuite de Mario. Même si le charpentier ne peut que sauter, éviter les ennemis ou grimper aux échelles, il dispose néanmoins d'un moyen de se défendre : des marteaux sont parfois disponibles et peuvent être utilisés comme armes improvisées pendant un court laps de temps, et écraser tout ce qui ose croiser son chemin. Le deuxième écran présente des ascenseurs, des ressorts rebondissants maléfiques et des boules de feu errantes, ainsi que deux objets bonus : le parapluie et le sac à main de Pauline que le joueur peut collecter pour des points supplémentaires. Enfin, le troisième écran est constitué de quatre grandes plates-formes maintenues en place par huit rivets jaunes. Mario doit courir ou sauter par-dessus les huit rivets pour les faire disparaître, forçant la grande construction à s'effondrer et piégeant ensuite le gorille géant, sauvant ainsi Pauline de sa situation difficile.

Il giocatore deve guidare Mario attraverso tre diverse fasi e alla fine salvare Pauline. Ma il compito non sarà facile e Kong farà di tutto per proteggere e sostenere ciò che ora gli appartiene. Nella prima schermata, Mario deve correre su una serie di travi metalliche evitando i barili che la scimmia gli lancia addosso. Il primo barile accende anche un barile di petrolio situato nella parte inferiore dello schermo, che a sua volta genera palle di fuoco che inseguono Mario. Anche se il falegname può solo saltare, evitare i nemici o arrampicarsi sulle scale, ha comunque un modo per difendersi: a volte sono disponibili dei martelli che possono essere usati come armi improvvisate per un breve periodo di tempo e schiacciare qualsiasi cosa osi incrociare il suo cammino. Il secondo schermo presenta ascensori, molle rimbalzanti malvagie e palle di fuoco erranti, oltre a due oggetti bonus: l'ombrello e la borsa di Pauline che il giocatore può raccogliere per punti extra. Infine, il terzo schermo è composto da quattro grandi piattaforme fissate da otto rivetti gialli. Mario deve correre o saltare oltre tutti gli otto rivetti per farli scomparire, costringendo la grande costruzione a crollare e quindi intrappolando il gorilla gigante, salvando così Pauline dalla sua situazione difficile.
