Lara's first venture into the handheld world, has her pursuing 'the nightmare stone' that holds inside a sinister deity. This deity, quaxet, was imprisoned by the combined efforts of the mayan, aztec and inca cultures, and now some nasty treasure seekers are looking to spoil it all by unleashing the evil. Having knowledge of this, lara must set out to prevent the disaster from happening by finding the stone first. This version has the standard tomb raider gameplay of running, jumping and switch-flipping, but presented in a side-view 2d style, reminiscent of flashback. At lara's disposal are 25 or so moves, which are crammed onto the 2 gbc buttons. There are also game-save crystals at special points throughout the levels. La première aventure de Lara dans le monde portable la pousse à poursuivre « la pierre du cauchemar » qui renferme une sinistre divinité. Cette divinité, Quaxet, a été emprisonnée grâce aux efforts combinés des cultures maya, aztèque et inca, et maintenant de méchants chercheurs de trésors cherchent à tout gâcher en déchaînant le mal. Sachant cela, Lara doit tenter d'éviter que le désastre ne se produise en trouvant d'abord la pierre. Cette version a le gameplay standard de Tomb Raider consistant à courir, sauter et basculer, mais présenté dans un style 2D à vue latérale, rappelant un flashback.
